articulate that vision
Posted in :: Innovation ::

I worship Stephan Johnson. Like Don Norman, he always has interesting ideas
and a way to say it that make it mean something to you. it's not enough to
be a visionary; you have to be able to communicate your visions so they have
a chance of life in the world.

to a T

I like this vision of "T-shaped people" -- fun visual.

"IBM is looking to recruit 'T' shaped people, Dave Roberts of IBM's Ease of Use, told practitioners at the latest Usability Professionals Association (UPA) event in London.

The 'T' that IBM desires is a combination of breadth of knowledge and depth of understanding. Coming at a time when training and accreditation is high on the agenda of both the UPA and the B-HCI-G, this model of skills distribution has begun to raise interest across the board."

classify me
Posted in :: Information Architecture ::

Web classification is essential (Gerry McGovern) -- "Classification
(taxonomy, categorization) is to content as mapping is to geography.
It is an essential tool that allows the person visiting a website to
navigate it quickly and efficiently. Without professional classification
a website becomes a jumble yard of content that is confusing and time
wasting."

Gods of Sales
"In which we take an unabashedly worshipful attitude toward those rare salespeople who can move the merchandise in this rotten economy. Five of the best tell us, in their own words, how they're getting the job done. "

banner blindness
Posted in :: Usability ::

Understanding the phenomenon of banner blindness
"It has been observed that contradictory results have been found regarding the perception of banner advertisements on the Internet. While some studies found that recall and recognition scores for banners were at a satisfactory level, others observed that banners are almost generally overlooked. In this study, it is argued that the opposing results might be explained by differences in navigation style (aimless browsing versus goal directed searching). "
