Why does our sex make us a target?

I like how they turn outlying situations in to a mainstream, rampant phenomenon.

And I also enjoyed how they turned flaming and cyber-bullies into a violent, sexist, conspiracy.

Not that harassment isn't an issue. But, please. A threat to female bloggers? OMFG!

Not sure if that made sense... I think I was ranting.

On the one hand, I'm glad that major media are focusing on some of the harassment that women face online. On the other hand, most scare-stories that major media run concerning the online world deal with children, and I worry that the willingness of major media to also run stories about women only arises from a sense that women are just like children. This new wave of stories, about the dangers women face online, have a strongly paternalistic tone to them. It's not an appropriate tone when speaking of adults.
