Horacio Salazar Fellow architects: Louis Rosenfeld and Peter Morville have given us bad news. Argus Associates will cease operations this month. These are indeed sad news. I think everybody in this list is well aware of the immense contribution Louis Rosenfeld, Peter Morville and the rest of the people at Argus have made to the advancement of our budding field. I speak for myself, but also for my team of architects, and I'm sure the rest of the IA community will agree that our friends' work has been fundamental to the development of information architecture. I'd like to thank Louis and Peter for their book, their words and their effort. I'd like to tell them --although they know it-- they're certainly not alone. We all know we face uncertain times. Yesterday's drop in Nasdaq is an ominous sign of the times to come. Now it's the time to fasten the pace, huddle together and sell --yes, sell-- the importance of IA not just to specific projects, but to the development of a well adjusted wired world. In Greek mythology Argus had a hundred eyes. We know we need something akin in order to survive the turmoil years to come. But I'm certain of one thing: we must not give up IA. We must struggle to develop it, to make it grow, to strengthen its weaknesses and to promote the goods it provides. This has been a sad day, in more than one way. And yet I'm sure this community will thrive and prosper. Good luck to you all! Horacio Salazar |
