I can only consider this proponderance of UX companies a very good sign. If they are getting work in this thin market, it suggests that companies are putting more emphasis on customer satisfaction. Perhaps yesterday's rant will soon be a thing of the past.

They might be popping up, but who says they are doing any reasonable amount of business? You could have 30 new companies combined only doing 1/10 the business of RazorFish or WatchFire.
Also, I notice that Nielsen has more time on his hands; more frequent updates to useit.com. Perhaps he is competing against other, healthy usability blogs?
So, when are you going to talk about how we can all make money doing content? I want to know. How can I take content and make money from it? Oh wait, that is so 1999-2000. Sorry! Scratch that. ;-)
